General history & location has been well-known since 1990 as the largest cave in the world by volume 38.4 x 106 cubic meters , it is more than 5 kilometers long and 200 meters high and 150 meters wide. Son Doong cave is located  in Quang Binh province(in the North Central part of Vietnam)  and near Laos-Vietnam border. Son Doong Cave was formed 2-5 million years ago by the dissolution of limestone. Rainwater picks up carbon dioxide from the air and as it percolates through the soil, which turns into a weak acid. This slowly dissolves out the limestone along the joints, bedding planes and fractures, some of which become enlarged enough to form caves. The name “Son Doong” cave means ‘Mountain river cave”.
